Window Replacement
Your windows make a huge difference in your home.
You can have the best, top-of-the-line windows. If they aren’t properly installed, they are no better than old, worn-out windows. And you can always tell when your windows need to be replaced.
The good news is, here at Brockway Contracting, we’ve been installing windows for homeowners in the area for the last 40 years.
Whether you need your windows fixed or replaced, or you have a new construction in need of windows, we’ll do the job right the first time.
Types of Windows
There are several different types of windows you can choose from, including:
-
Double-Hung: Reasonably priced with wide availability. Easy to use. Can require maintenance and can be a break-in hazard.
-
Double-Hung with Muntins: The same as a double-hung except the sashes are divided into smaller panes of glass.
-
Slider: Durable with no cranks or other mechanisms. Cheaper than other styles. Limited in sizes and shapes. Their tracks can get dirt and debris in them.
-
Casement: Windows that crank open horizontally. Good at keeping drafts out. Secure against intruders. Can be broken off by a strong wind. The crank can have mechanical failures.
-
Awning: Windows that crank open vertically. Secure against intruders. Can be left open during rain. Mechanical cranks can be subject to failure.
-
Roof or Skylights: Great source of light. A venting roof life helps exhaust hot air in hot months. Can have a shorter lifespan.
-
Fixed: Permanently sealed making them better energy savers. Simple designs and cheaper than other styles. Provide no way to admit fresh air.
-
Bay or Bow: Visually appealing and provides a constant view of the outside. They often come with shelf space and can be greenhouse windows. These can be expensive and can lack proper sealing because of the large surface area.
-
Glass Block: Made of heavy thick blocks, this is the most secure window. These are semi-opaque, making them ideal for places where privacy is needed. Rarely need to be replaced. These are not often decorative.
When Do You Need to Replace Your Windows?
There are many different ways to tell when you need to replace your windows. Some signs are obvious and others…not so much. Here are some things to look for to determine if you need new windows:
-
Seals that are damaged or broken: You may see moisture and fogging on or between panes. This makes them less efficient.
-
Operational issues: A window that doesn’t open or close the right way could be minor or it could be a bigger problem.
-
Higher heating or cooling bills: There could be a leak in your windows.
-
Drafts: This is not always as obvious as you’d think.
-
Noise: If you hear noises outside your window more clearly, your window may not be fully sealed.
